Event LEAD

As Event Lead at The Tinsmith, your role is to oversee the customer experience in our space on event days. We will look to you as our on-site leader, ensuring that the same level of high quality service and attention to detail is being delivered for each and every event in our venue.

ABOUT US

The Tinsmith is downtown Madison’s premier wedding venue and was voted Best Wisconsin wedding venue in 2025 by Wisconsin Bride Magazine.  The Tinsmith was intentionally designed for weddings and can accommodate ceremonies, cocktail hours and receptions all onsite.  We host an average of 135 events per year and oversee full bar service, but do not provide onsite catering.  The Tinsmith provides a fun, supportive and fast-paced work environment.

Weekend availability required (Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays).  Typical event days are broken into two main shifts, split between two Event Leads.  The opening shift is typically ~9:30am - 5:30pm, whereas the closing shift is typically ~4:30pm - 12:30am.  This position is expected to average 2 shifts/weekend, and up to 3 shifts during peak season (June - October).


DUTIES

This position will serve as the manager on duty during event days, requiring the ability to lead a team and to manage challenges as they arise in a professional, calm way. Event day duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Client and guest interaction throughout the event - answering questions and fostering a welcoming, professional environment

  • Following detailed event timelines and bar package details - Ensuring that events are executed according to plan

  • Oversee bar staff and event associates

  • Ensuring vendors are following venue policies and checking out catering teams before departure

  • Managing venue systems (lights, HVAC, A/V) and maintaining venue cleanliness and orderliness

  • Assisting with room flips throughout the event, maintaining venue cleanliness,  bussing and washing glassware, and restocking the bar 

  • Assist with other light admin/venue related duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Minimum 1 year of event-related or hospitality experience. Bar experience is a plus.

Must have experience leading a team and be confident in providing feedback to team members and ensuring service standards are met.

Must possess a high level of attention to detail, both in written communication and in person at the venue.

Must be self-motivated and an independent problem-solver that works well with limited supervision.

Must be dependable, have a positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and professional appearance.

Must possess excellent customer service and in-person communication skills, along with the willingness to go above and beyond to ensure an exceptional guest experience.

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and handle customer conflict resolution in a confident and professional manner.

Ability to work on feet for a duration of 8 or more hours and lift 50+ pounds.

BENEFITS/COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $23 - $25/per hour, dependent on experience. 

HOURS

Hours vary based on the venue’s event calendar, but regular weekend and evening hours are required. The majority of events are held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays,  and schedules are released on a monthly basis.  Expected to average 1 - 2 shifts per week (8 - 16 hours per week), with additional shifts available during the months of August, September and October.

Events Associate

As Events Associate at The Tinsmith, your role is to execute events within our space and ensure every client, guest, and vendor has a great experience.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES

  • Assist Events Manager with event day duties, included but not limited to: greeting guests, assisting vendors, maintaining venue cleanliness, setup and teardown, and cleaning and resetting the property after the event has finished. 

  • Assist bar staff with bussing glassware and washing glassware as needed 

  • Participate in venue hosted events, such as open houses and public events, as needed

  • Other tasks as assigned by Events Manager, Events Director and Lead Bartender 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must be a reliable, efficient, and able to follow direction

  • Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and handle customer conflict resolution in a confident and professional manner.

  • Must be friendly, possess a positive attitude and be a team player 

  • Must have a professional appearance with an approachable presence 

  • Ability to work on feet for a duration of 8 or more hours and lift 50+ pounds

HOURS

This position is hourly, with primarily weekend and evening hours.  Flexible schedule for the right candidates, but must be willing to work at a minimum three 10 hour shifts per month.  Maximum hours available are around 20 hours per week, on Fridays and Saturdays.  

The schedule is based around our calendar of events.  Ability to grow and advance within the company.

bartenders/barbacks

The bar staff at The Tinsmith are crucial to ensuring the successful execution of our events and that our guests have an amazing customer service experience.

ABOUT THE TINSMITH

The Tinsmith is a 1925 Madison-original Trachte brothers warehouse building transformed into a stunningly unique wedding and event venue in downtown Madison. The Tinsmith opened in 2020 and offers over 9,000 square feet of open floor plan, 23’ ceilings, and a 1,000 square foot 4-season solarium. The venue can accommodate up to 500 guests, with an average wedding size of 175-200 guests. The Tinsmith holds on average 115 private events per year, and oversees full bar service but does not provide onsite catering.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bartenders must have at least one year experience. No experience required for barbacks.

  • Must be reliable and dependable

  • Must be friendly, possess a positive attitude and be a team player

HOURS

Shifts are primarily on Friday and Saturday afternoons/evenings with occasional Sunday or mid-week events. Flexible scheduling, but must be willing to work at least 3 days per month. This position makes an excellent second job.
